They aren't used in many main entries, but they are used in between boss phases for a few bosses.

The Yashichi is a recurring (though typically rare) item throughout the official Mega Man series, first appearing near the end of the original Mega Man. When collected, it completely refills Mega Man's health and weapon ammunition.

In the Make a Good Mega Man Level series, while it exists as a powerup that can be manually placed by users, it also has a rare chance of appearing when an enemy is killed (the exact odds are 1 in 4096). Outside of entry stages, the item often appears before long and/or difficult boss fights.
