- "JUMP! JUMP! SLIDE! SLIDE!"
- ―The sounds made by Signs, Mega Man 8
The Sign is a gimmick from Mega Man 8, found in Frost Man's stage. It is a sign that briefly appears to warn travellers of upcoming hazards and how to avoid them.
Signs were first made available in the devkit for Make a Good Mega Man Level 2, and were used in the entries Shovel Knight, Holy Crap, Mega Man Can Airslide?, Cursor Curse, But It Lacked the Depth to Convince Me That This is Really Hell, and Launch Man & Shuttle Man, as well as the Tier X stage Swiss Hotel, and in Null and Void. Signs would reappear in Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero, in the levels Frosty Fields, Ice Breaker, and Null and Void.
Behavior
When Mega Man approaches a Sign's location, it will fly in from one side of the screen and play a sound cue before going back offscreen. Two variants exist; one that says, "JUMP! JUMP!", and another that says "SLIDE! SLIDE!" Though they can be used however a designer wishes, their intended purpose is to be used in Frost Sled sections to alert the player to upcoming danger (e.g. pits, spiked ceilings) and how to react to avoid it.
