The Fire Spike is a gimmick from Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, found in Fire Man's stage. It is a flame that travels across a floor, returning to its starting point if it reaches an end point.
Fire Spikes were first available with the release of the Megamix Engine, and thus appeared in the devkits for Make a Good Mega Man Level 3 and Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level. However, it first appeared in Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero in Null and Void. Its appearances in MaG48HMML were more extensive, with it appearing in the entries Ordinance With Lyrics, Fire Armed to the Beak, Celestial Resort, Realm of the Lich Lord, and Spicy Top Action.
Behavior
Fire Spikes travel across the ground in one direction, instantly returning to their starting position either after reaching the extent of its radius, or coming into contact with a wall. If Mega Man comes into contact with it, he will take damage. Fire Spikes are completely immune to weapons, and unlike in Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, the Ice Slasher can't freeze them. They can also ignite Oil and Oil Slicks.
Fire Spikes have the following creation code variables:
- radius - The maximum number of pixels from its starting point that it can travel before returning (by default, it is set to 32).
- moveTime - How many frames pass between a Fire Spike's movement (by default, it is set to 5).
- dir - The direction the Fire Spike moves; by default, it is set to 1 to go right, but can be changed to -1 to go left.
