- "An interesting enemy. On spawn, it will float in its faced direction, and occasionally stop, pop open and shoot an 8-way burst of shots before closing and moving again. It is invincible when moving."
- ―Note in Flying Shell's code, Megamix Engine
Flying Shell is an enemy from the original Mega Man. It is a small round robot with a durable exterior.
Flying Shell was first made available in the devkit for the original Make a Good Mega Man Level, where it appeared in the entry Wily Combo (with a unique sprite), and the Wily stage Flashback Database. Make a Good Mega Man Level Remastered also adds it to its redesigned version of the Wily stage Cannon Deck.
Flying Shell returned in Make a Good Mega Man Level 2, where it appeared in the entries Forgotten Fortress and City Under Siege, as well as the Wily stages Outer Space and Reality Core, and the Pit of Pits sub-levels "Airbag", "It's Beginning to Feel Just Like an Ice World", "Nice Rompy Cutman Level", and "Rise to the Challenge". It also appeared in the Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero levels Explosive Freefall, Stormy Spire, and Construction of Constructions.
In Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level, Flying Shells were used in the entry Space Pipes, but are also used as enemies in one of Don Atetemino's mini-stages during the final battle. Flying Shells also appear in the Love Survivor sidequest's stealth section, but emit a circle of light instead of firing bullets, and are immune to all weapons except the Spark Shock.
Behavior
Flying Shells will float forward while hiding, making themselves invulnerable to most attacks. They will periodically stop to reveal their vulnerable eyes and fire projectiles in eight directions.
