The Lever is a gimmick from Mega Man 4, found in Drill Man's stage. It is a lever that, when interacted with, performs a variety of functions.

Levers were first made available in the devkit for Make a Good Mega Man Level 2, and were used in the entries Forgotten Fortress, Holy Crap, Mega Man Can Airslide?, Donut Observation Center, and Guts Man's Asteroid. They also appeared in the Wily stage Lever Oriental Enchanted, and in Null and Void. In Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero, Levers were briefly used in the stage Surfboard Showdown.

Behavior

Levers sit in the background, and can be moved up or down by Mega Man jumping while in front of one. When toggled, a Lever will activate or deactivate Lever Field objects that have the same tag as it, which in turn activate and deactivate ladders, terrain, spikes, and water covered by them. While deactivated, a Lever Field's objects cease to exist until activated.

Levers have numerous creation code settings:

  • state - The starting position of the lever; 0 = up (default), 1 = down.
  • upTag - The tag of the Lever Field object to activate when flipped up.
  • downTag - The tag of the Lever Field object to activate when flipped down.
  • oneShot - If set to true, the Lever can only be flipped once before staying in its end position.
